Dai

IoT Furniture
Year: 2023

The project has been prepared as the final project for Furniture Design Mastership 5th edition at Politecnico di Milano.

As a market foresight, different kinds of user assistance products might be united to create a third kind of new item to meet users’ needs.

Some works say the Internet of Things market is going to enlarge with the same area of the Furniture market by 2030. They say these two markets will collaborate to provide more benefits to consumers in the near future for residential use.

Switch the product according to your need.

Needs depend on situations.

When we have guests, we need more side tables or stools. Sometimes we might need more seatings rather than coffee tables.

For inhouse movement

Room to room, from front door to kitchen, from kitchen to living & dining rooms

Users need support for carrying stuff like trays, clothes, etc. This additional benefit might work for seniors and people in rush.

The top is changeable. It has two faces. One side is upholstered for seating, while the other side is chipboard for side table use.

Dai might be managed by voice directly when the user is nearby or by central smart home system. The product gives inputs to home assistant AI.

‘Hey Dai, Follow me.’

‘Hey Dai, go to your spot in the hallway. After you arrive, turn off yourself’

Dai has infrared sensors(IR) to detect humans and their moves, ultrasonic sensors to detect the distance to the walls and obstacles.

Dai can create a virtual map of the room and update its position relative to fixed reference points with Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM)
